Hyderabad: Traffic congestion caused by the metro works in the Chaderghat area led to an accident killing a 54-year-old person. The mishap occurred when a water tanker stuck in the traffic tried to switch lanes and ran over the victim, Kishan Rao, who was on his scooter.

Police said M. Kishan Rao was one of the partners of the Ramakrishna IIT Junior College located at Nallakunta. On Sunday morning when he reached the Malakpet railway over bridge a water tanker hit him from the rear.

“The tanker driver lost control and hit his bike. After he fell the tanker ran over him killing him on the spot,” said Chaderghat inspector G. Sattaiah. “The metro works are not the reason but due to lack of space commuters are advised to be extra careful in such areas,” the inspector added. Clarifying on the traffic congestion police said that adequate precautions have been taken to notify commuters.

An accidental death case was registered and the body was handed over to the family after postmortem. The police has launched a hunt for the tanker driver.
