Karnataka Assembly Speaker gives an earful to lawmakers
Koliwad observed that often many of the questions raised were not answered adequately.
Bengaluru: Members of both the Congress and the opposition received an earful from Speaker K.B. Koliwad in the Assembly on Tuesday.
While he objected to an opposition member rushing to well of the House in protest over an “inadequate” reply to his question, he pulled up the government for failing to provide satisfactory answers to the queries raised. Mr Koliwad advised Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar to keep his members in order when Hubballi-Dharawad (West)MLA Aravind Chandrakanth Bellad rushed to the well of the House in protest over the reply given to his question on release of a pension refund to Hubballi-Dharawad Corporation employees. Making it clear that he did not appreciate such disruption, he said, “I want Mr Bellad to return.” When Mr Bellad did as told, Wakf and Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig admitted there was a lapse on the side of the government in releasing pension refund to Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi employees, but assured he would convene a meeting of finance department officials and ensure the money was released.
When Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra rose to table unstarred questions next, Mr Koliwad observed that often many of the questions raised were not answered adequately.
