No hike in power tariff: APERC

The power ministry will push Electricity Amendment Bill in forthcoming Budget session, which provides for segregating the distribution network business and the electricity supply business.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has  conducted public hearing on the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) and tariff proposals, including cross-subsidy and additional surcharges for various consumer categories for FY2018-19 of the southern and eastern Power Distribution Companies (SPDCL and EPDCL) at SPDCL SE office in Vijaywaada on Wednesday.

APERC chairman Justice (Retd) G. Bhavani Prasad has taken the applications and feedback from the people.  

He has announced that there was no proposal of hike of power tariff from the SPDCL. He has clarified that this year they will not be any tariff changes.

The officials have explained about the Smart metres. The chairman,  Bhavani Prasad, has said there is a proposal of reducing '1 per one unit for the users of Smart metres.

Mr Bhavani Prasad has mentioned about the LED bulbs supply and the upgrading works taken up with the funds of World Bank. Some of the consumers demanded to reduce the power tariff.

Ch. Baburao, CPM leader, demanded the APERC to reduce the tariff, as the solar, wind power production rates have come down drastically. He has asked the commission not to renew the PPAs (Power Purchasing Agreements) for the power companies as there is no requirement for  purchase on such a high rate. He requested controlling pollution from NTTPS.
