Dakshin Kashi' remains forgotten
Consequently, the state's prominent abode of Lord Shiva is unable get the due recognition during Mahashivaratri.
Karimnagar: The ancient Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy (SRRD), regarded as Dakshin Kashi, continues to fail to draw the attention of the government when it comes to presenting silk clothes to its principal deity.
Consequently, the state’s prominent abode of Lord Shiva is unable get the due recognition during Mahashivaratri. Usually, either the Chief Minister or ministers, on behalf of government, gift the silk clothes to deities of prominent temples of the state at the time of their annual events.
However, the tradition of the CM or a minister presenting the silk clothes has not been kept when it comes to the principal deity of the SRRD. It’s always either the Vemulawada MLA or district collector who completes the ritual, disappointing devotees. It is learnt that the ministers skip the event due to a belief that their political career would be affected once they visit this abode.
To break the jinx, the CM spent one full day on the premises of the temple and announced grant of Rs 400 crore for developing it on many fronts and for bettering infrastructure in the temple town, on June 16. Despite this, no minister was present in celebrations of this Mahashivaratri festival.
