Woman rescued from 60-foot well in Namakkal district
The woman, Lakshmi, wife of Ramalingam in Pudupalayam village, went missing on Sunday early morning and could not be traced till 4 pm.
Namakkal: After a 12-hour rescue operation, a 50-year- old woman who fell into a 60 feet deep well was pulled out alive by the fire service personnel near Rasipuram in Namakkal district on Sunday evening.
The woman, Lakshmi, wife of Ramalingam in Pudupalayam village, went missing on Sunday early morning and could not be traced till 4 pm. Meanwhile, loud screams of a woman were heard from a well in the backyard of a church in Pudupalayam village. When the church members looked into the well, they found Lakshmi holding on to a pipeline and shouting for help from the bottom of the 60 feet well. Immediately, the fire service was called in.
As dusk fell, rescue operations became difficult in the darkness. Meanwhile, Lakshmi swooned inside the well. On Sunday evening, she was rescued from the well and rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, which was kept ready.
Family members say that Lakshmi was in a mentally disturbed state and may have mistakenly slipped into the well. She is undergoing treatment at the Rasipuram government hospital.
