Hyderabad: The four urban agencies —the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, HMR, HMWS&SB and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority —have the highest number of Twitter followers in the country. The city’s municipal body tops the list with over 1.02 lakh Twitter followers, beating the civic bodies of Navi Mumbai,  Bengaluru and Pune. But despite the large following, thousands of complaints via Twitter are still lying unattended.

A majority of the complaints tweeted to the municipal corporation is of illegal buildings and encroachment on nalas. The city’s twitterati are not just posting pictures but also tagging reference numbers of their complaints seeking action. But there are no results in a majority of cases. The GHMC has, however, received praise for quickly addressing complaints received on social media. Many have tweeted back thanking the corporation for assistance in various civic issues.
