Visakhapatnam: Curtains down on MLC poll campaign
Curtains are down on the campaigning for the poll for north Andhra graduates constituency.
Visakhapatnam: Curtains are down on the campaigning for the poll for north Andhra graduates constituency. It’s a prestigious thing for both BJP-TD combine who are at the helm at both Centre and state and Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) backed by Left parties. While the sitting north Andhra graduates constituency is held by PDF and the party wants to retain the seat, the ruling party alliance sweated it out to win the seat.
State ministers and union urban development minister, M. Venkaiah Naidu himself campaigned for BJP-TD candidate P.V.N. Madhav. While YSRC stayed away from the fray, the party supported PDF candidate, A. Ajai Sarma. Congress candidate Yedla Adiraju also campaigned vigorously in all the three districts of the region for the win. Campaigning ended on Tuesday evening and the poll will be held on Thursday. Senior journalist V.V. Ramana Murthy who is also in the fray campaigned hard. All the candidates tried hard and their best to woo the voters. “Will the BJP and TD combine accept the results of MLC poll in north Andhra as the referendum for their 3-year rule. They have ignored the needs and interests of this region,” said CPM state secretariat member Ch. Narasinga Rao.
Endowments minister P. Manikyala Rao and BJP MLC Somu Veerraju who campaigned on Tuesday predicted Mr Madhav’s win with a thumping majority due to the good work both the BJP and TD have been doing for the state. Mr Rao listed out the projects that were sanctioned by the BJP-led union government for the development of the three districts in the last three years. Though YSRC lent its support to PDF candidate they were not seen actively participating in the campaign for Mr Ajai Sarma.
