Bengaluru: Kundalahalli pass closure triggers chaos
One of the volunteers from Whitefield Rising said the city traffic police did not take any precautionary measures before closing the underpass.
Bengaluru: Traffic in Whitefield was thrown out of gear on Thursday morning after the city traffic police decided to close the Kundalahalli underpass for the ongoing BBMP work.
The motorists who waited for hours on HAL and Marathahalli claimed the city traffic police did not provide any alternate routes or diversion maps before closing the road.
Praveen, a software engineer and a resident of Whitefield blamed the city traffic police for not informing them in advance.
He said, “If I had known that the underpass was shut then I would have taken another route, but due to traffic police negligence, I ended up waiting for almost two hours only to take a U turn and return to the starting point.”
One of the volunteers from Whitefield Rising said the city traffic police did not take any precautionary measures before closing the underpass.
A volunteer said, “Traffic police could have updated about the ongoing work at least on their twitter handle and there are no sign boards or maps near the underpass to guide the motorists to take an alternate route.”
Seetha, a resident of Marathahalli and a private company employee said, “It normally takes only 10-15 mins to cross the Marathalli bridge towards Kundalahalli underpass in a BMTC bus during peak hours. But today, the bus was stuck on Marathahalli bridge for more than an hour and I was left with no other option but to get off the bus and walk home.”
DCP Traffic East K.V. Jagadeesh said they have directed the traffic towards the alternate routes and are also planning to change the BMTC bus routes to ease the traffic flow.
