Bengaluru: Heeding to the request made by students and parents over Congress party’s State-wide bandh on Thursday for 2-hours from 9 am to 11 am has been withdrawn, stated president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) D.K. Shivakumar.

Earlier, the State-wide bandh call was given by the party over alleged ‘corruption’ by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government especially referring to the Lokayukta trapping of BJP MLA Veerupakshappa Madal’s son Prashanth Madal with a cash of Rs 40 lakh as bribe from a contractor on behalf of his father.

He told reporters in Bengaluru that the bandh call has been withdrawn after holding discussions with party leaders and pointed out that an appeal was made by students and parents that bandh at this point would cause inconvenience to the students particularly those attending second pre-university examinations.

The Congress bandh call came in for sharp criticism from Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who criticized the bandh call saying that “I have never come across a bandh call for two-hours.”
