BENGALURU: After building a rapport between the police and the public through community policing, Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, in collaboration with the city police, has come up with an online initiative - ‘Kaapiwithacop’.

The idea behind the initiative is to enable citizens to have candid conversations and know more about their police. The initiative is aimed to bridge the gap with senior police officers.

As a pilot project, four such series have been shot, starting with Director of Forensic Science Laboratory Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat, followed by Anti-Corruption Bureau Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) and nodal officer of Community policing Harishekaran and DCP East Satheesh Kumar.

“With such initiatives, we aim to lessen the gap between namma cops and citizens. In a candid conversation with police officers, the citizens got to know more about them. They get to ask the officers questions like why they opted for this line of service, their inspirations; topical issues in the community etc. In turn, we hope the police can get better cooperation from the public. We believe there is a lot that can be achieved, if the police and public work in collaboration,” said a spokesperson from Janaagaraha.

It can be recalled that Community Policing an Initiative of Bengaluru City police in partnership with Janaagraha was launched in 2013. In the pilot project seven police station were covered, but later seven more were added. They are in the process to include four more police stations.
