Schools flaunt fancy tags
Managements give fancy names to attract parents, but ignore infra.
Visakhapatnam: Despite clear cut guidelines from the state government to drop the fancy tags from school names, the management of various schools are still flaunting the fancy tags of Techno, Olympiad and Concept schools.
Putting it simply, the gullible parents are hoodwinked by these tags and sending their kids to the best and classy educational institutes. It was estimated that thousands of schools in the state still carry the fancy names to get more admissions.
Taking a step forward, some schools are even adding the tags of ‘global’ or ‘international’ school without adopting the international standards or curriculum such as the International Baccalaureate, International General Certificate Council for Secondary Education (IGCSE), etc.
Convener, Right to Education Forum, Narava Prakasa Rao, said some schools are exploiting the aspirations of the pa-rents and hiking the fees doublefold by tagging some fancy words to their school names. But many of these schools, which bombard parents with misleading claims, operate in crammed spaces without any playground or proper infrastructure.
Despite the Right to Education Act stipulating stringent norms to scho-ols to have a playground or take the students to the nearby playground or municipal stadium, many schools are not compliant with these norms and hardly provide any physical education classes for the kids.
Member of the AP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR), S. Balaraju, which oversees implementation of the Right to Education Act, said, “Propagating false claims through fancy titles also amounts to violation of the Right to Education Act.
We are cracking the whip in association with the education department on those schools as and when complaints are received. Outdoor activities also play a major role in the all round development of a child and schools must provide physical education to the students,” Mr Balaraju added.
