Adilabad: The Congress has settled on a ‘social engineering’ strategy to show that it is with the marginalised communities and is committed to their empowerment. Towards this, it will be organising a public meeting in Mancherial on April 14, commemorating Dr B.R. Ambedkar jayanti.

The move is being seen as a strategy against the state government’s unveiling of the tallest statue of Dr Ambedkar on that day.

Congress leaders are planning to mobilise one lakh people for the meeting, which will be attended by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. He will pay tribute to Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule and Komaram Bheem at the ground.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will unveil the 125-foot Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad. BRS leaders are mobilising huge crowds, especially Dalits from villages.

It is learnt that AICC leaders advised TPCC to organise the event on Ambedkar jayanti to send a strong message across sections that the party is with the poor and marginalized sections.

The news that is making rounds in political circles is that Kharge has thrown its weight behind CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka and approved his padayatra as part of the ‘Haath se hath jodo abhiyan in the state.
