Chennai: Claiming that the present educational policy of the Tamil Nadu government is a total failure, a public interest litigation has been filed in the Madras high court to upgrade the state board syllabus on par with the CBSE and NCERT syllabus, to enable students of Tamil Nadu compete with the students of other states in the entrance examinations such as Neet.

A division bench comprising Justices V. Bharathidasan and N. Seshasayee, before whom the PIL filed by advocate A.K. Martin came up for hearing, ordered notice to the state government and posted after vacation, further hearing of the case.

According to petitioner, though the students of Tamil Nadu get good marks such as 1190 out of 1200 marks in the 12th standard school examinations, they were unable to succeed in the entrance examinations conducted for medical such as Neet as the questions were prepared by CBSE from the books of NCERT. The other southern states Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh revised and modified their respective state board syllabus on par with CBSE, he added.

He said when he made a representation to the authorities, he received a negative reply stating that it was the state policy and there was no need of anybody’s advice.

Therefore, he filed the present petition to direct the state government to consider his representation dated July 21, 2017, and October 3, 2017, and revise the current state education syllabus better than or equal standard to CBSE and NCERT syllabus, he added.
