Tiruchy: Tension prevailed for a while at Samuthiram on the Tiruchy-Manaparai national highway near here as a section of villagers held a state-owned TNSTC bus captive in protesting against the irregular water supply to their village, on Tuesday.
According to CPI (M)'s local unit secretary Maasilamani who led the agitation, despite repeated representations to the authorities, they did not get drinking water regularly, putting people to untold suffering.
On information, officials from the development departments and police rushed to the spot and persuaded the agitators to disperse peacefully with an assurance that the drinking water will be arranged immediately for their village and restored normalcy.
