Gender sensitisation course will need 2,500 lecturers
The new subject will be introduced from the second semester.
Hyderabad: Even as the the collegiate education department implements the gender sensitization course from this year, a major challenge has cropped up — it needs to train lecturers in the next three to four months. The new subject will be introduced from the second semester, classes for which are likely to commence in November or December. According to Vani Prasad (IAS), Commissioner for Collegiate Education, nearly 2,500 teachers, drawn from over 1,100 degree colleges in Telangana, will be given orientation classes on this new subject.
“The course is different from other subjects and workshops have been planned to train teachers. Once the admission process is completed, we will rope in experts, senior professors and researchers to train the degree college lecturers,” she said. A workshop was recently organised in the JNTU campus at Kukatpally to train the teaching faculty. Vani Prasad also bust a few myth. “This course is not against men. It only stresses on gender equality in the society,” she said.
