Government Welfare LP School waits for students in Perambra
At present, the school has less than ten students, all coming from the same scheduled caste community residing in the Sambara colony nearby.
Kozhikode: Even when the academic session of this year started on June 1, the Government Welfare Lower Primary School in Perambra remained a Sambava or Pariah-only school.
The school and its officials were hoping to get students from different communities and break caste barriers but in vain.
At present, the school has less than ten students, all coming from the same scheduled caste community residing in the Sambara colony nearby.
“The school has all the facilities just like any other government school. Even then other communities keep away,” says headmaster Raghunathan Thettiyil.
“This may be the reason for some of the students from this community also choosing other schools, with their ardent wish to get educated living in a liberal society. All our efforts in educating people for the last ten years were futile, and even this year the story continues.
Their colony also has people from other castes like Nair and Thiyya, but still, they won't send their kids here to learn with a Sambava.”
