Chennai: A couple from the United States got married as per Hindu religious custom here on Wednesday. Gabriella Sandberg and Timothy Peirco Tomlin are on a mission to get married seven times under various religious customs to show that the wedding is a wonderful event.

“In the West, people jeopardise their marriage through divorce. And to show that marriage is wonderful, we want to celebrate our marriage again and again and our next wedding is a tribal marriage ceremony scheduled at Kenya next week”, says Gabriella, who is a veterinarian by profession.

When asked if it would not be boring to get married again and again, that too, to the same person, the groom Tomlin, pursuing a masters in psychology says, “It does not matter when the bride is beautiful. Divorce is a common thing in US, but for us it is the most difficult thing to think. Starting from our first wedding in Japan as per Shinto religious custom, it’s been fascinating. We make new friends, get gifts, wishes and prayers from different people. We believe that these religious prayers of different faiths will keep us united throughout”, says the jubilant Tomlin.

“So far, the Hindu wedding was the toughest as we were asked to sit before the fire and my wife is not used to smoke, she was coughing and rubbing her eyes throughout the ceremony,” adds Tomlin.

“We got married in Japan, Nepal, Bali and India. Our next schedule is to get married in Kenya, followed by Czech Republic and Netherlands”, says Sandberg.

“We got engaged seven years ago when we met at Georgia and then we decided that our marriage is going to be a 40-day gala event. We saved money for these events and have a week to go”, adds Sandberg.
