KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation will soon call a meeting of experts and stakeholders to discuss the comprehensive education master plan proposed for the development of government schools.

The Master Plan, aims at effective coordination of various government funds for the development of schools owned by the Corporation, and was proposed in the Council recently. Meanwhile, Kannur Corporation has also shown interest in the master plan and may soon adopt it.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kozhikode Corporation Education Standing Committee Chairman M Radhakrishnan Master said that a proper master plan would help in bringing more schools under one roof of development and effective use of funds without lapses.

“At present, many works declared by the MPs and MLAs are not happening. The civic body in charge of the schools does not know about these funds and we cannot do a follow up on that. Some of the work declared does not even have an estimate”.

“Through the master plan we are planning to better coordinate the funds through MP, MLA, local fund, RMSA, SSA etc and it would make the work more responsible and accountable,” he added.

He also said that MLAs had extended their support to the project and soon work on preparing the master plan would start. “The project to prepare a master plan for schools is a good example and I hope we can soon draft it,” said Mayor Thottathil Raveendran.

Meanwhile Kannur Corporation Mayor E.P Latha said that they might also follow the same by preparing a master plan. “Talap Mixed UP School in Kannur is an example of a government school which was revived  by the efforts of the alumni, PTA and public. In many meetings we attend, the development of government schools has become the talk. This concept is a good one which we may adopt soon,” she added.
