Bhagiratha project to Raghava Constructions, Megha Engineering by Telangana govt
The government revised the norms and came forward to pay the interest amount for five years and called for fresh tenders recently.
Hyderabad: Mission Bhagiratha project, which is aimed to supply tap water to every household by December 2018, has picked up pace in urban areas.
The project was confined mostly to rural areas for the past two years. Work has now been launched in 24 towns at a cost of Rs 550 crore.
The project could not make headway in urban areas as contractors shied away from taking up works in urban areas. After government relaxed certain norms, the tenders were finalised.
The state government has given a deadline of 18 months for contractors to complete Mission Bhagiratha in towns.
The towns where pipe laying works have begun include Jagtyal, Korutla, Metpally, Paloancha, Sattupalli, Illendu, Bellampally, Bhainsa, Kagaz-nagar, Mancherial, Mandam-arri, Nirmal, Jangoan, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, Bhongir, Tandur, Vikarabad, Sadashivpet, Sangareddy, Zaheerabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy.
The works will also be extended to 19 nagar panchayats soon at a cost of Rs 650 crore for which tenders will be finalised this week.

Raghava Constructions, Megha Engineering had submitted tenders. Raghava Constructions won the bid for Rs 550 crore. The government offered to repay Rs 1,100 crore to Raghava Constructions with interest in five years.
