Intermittent rains in Central, North Chennai

Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts on Friday witnessed sporadic rains.

Chennai: Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts on Friday witnessed sporadic rains bring respite to the receding groundwater table in Chennai. Intermittent rains in parts of Central and north Chennai also affected peak hour traffic. According to regional meteorological department sources Chembarambakkam, Sriperumbudur, Ennore and Tiru-vallur received rains up to 7 cm on Fridaybringing respite to Greater Chennai that has been facing worst drought in its recent times.

Though there were inflow in to the reservoirs the weather brought down the maximum temperature during morning and evening hou-rs. Sivagangai, Kanch-eepuram, Jayamkon-dam, Chinnakalar, Thir-uvidaimaruthur, Thanjavur, Lalgudi, Thali, Uthiramerur and Sholingur also received good rains.  Meanwhile, catchment areas of Mettur on Friday morning recorded the inflow of Cauvery water released by Karnataka.

It has taken more than a week for the water to reach the Tamil Nadu border and about 1,100 cusecs was reached the TN entry point, PWD sources said.  “For next 48 hours,  the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Rain or thundershower is likely to occur in some areas during evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 37 and 27 degree Celsius,” read a weather bulletin.
