Bengaluru: Renowned Kannada litterateur Dr Baragur Ramachandrappa bemoaned the fact that journalists have lost the freedom to work without fear or favour.
Speaking at a workshop organised by Bangalore reporters guild as part of international press freedom day, he said the direction of media was changing fast due to involvement of media owners in politics. Today, the sanctity of media was at stake and no action was taken to address this situation. The fourth estate would face problems in the coming years, he added.
He noted that journalists undergo a lot of mental and physical stress besides stress on various subjects. Any journalist who would face such confrontation effectively would emerge successful. Some media houses were riddled with castism causing hardship for scribes. The media was functioning between internal and external pressure. The scribes were forced to work respecting the ethos of journalism.
Former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda inaugurated the workshop on Saturday.
