BENGALURU: In order to create awareness about the newly revised fine amounts for traffic violations, the city traffic police are putting up display boards at various places listing the fines for various violations.

At a couple of places in V.V. Puram, they are also displaying the number of accidents and deaths that have taken place in the city in the past three years. There is also a plan to display the number of fatal and non-fatal accidents in the city and boards will be put up at spots notorious for frequent accidents.

A senior police officer said this idea came from a few traffic police constables, who stated that displaying the number of accidents and deaths would help in creating awareness among the motorists and make them extra cautious. “These statistics will be updated every three months,” he added.

The officer cited the example of Tin Factory junction on Old Madras Road, which is an accident prone stretch, and said such a display board will be put up there.

“This is our plan and we will discuss it with the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Harishekaran and seek his approval. This will be a good idea to keep people aware about the accident rates and how safe or unsafe the route is. If the idea is approved, we will soon begin the work,” the officer added.
