Hyderabad: 2BHK deadline once again extended to 2020
The earlier deadlines were December 2018 and July. A GHMC official blamed the delay on state government not providing funds.
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has once again extended the deadline for completing the construction of 2BHKs to September 2020.
The earlier deadlines were December 2018 and July. A GHMC official blamed the delay on state government not providing funds. Besides, 10 months were lost when the model code of conduct (MCC) was in place. Though the 2BHK project did not attract the MCC, the funds crunch severely hit the project.
The official said that after receiving an assurance from government with regard to funds, the corporation has set fresh deadlines to hand over 50,000 houses by December and the remaining by September 2020. The GHMC says it has completed the construction of 7,848 houses at 11 locations. It has given a timeline of completing 29,178 2BHK houses by September, 25, 996 by December, 24, 301 by March 2020 and the remaining 10,622 by June next year.
The corporation is yet to take over land from the revenue department to construct 2,055 houses. It claimed that construction of these will be completed by September next year.
However, highly-placed sources said that in order to meet the targets, the civic body has to receive funds from government at regular intervals. This apart, it should pay all dues with immediate effect to put the 2BHK project back on track.
A senior GHMC official said that the surge in steel price in January 2017 had badly hit the project. He said that government delayed organising a meeting with steel manufacturers to settle the price for almost two months. He said that due to intervention of local leaders at the sites and resistance to constructing houses, the issue had taken three months to resolve.
