Tiffin bomb seized in Odisha, defused
Security personnel found a tiffin bomb with about 40 kg of explosives hidden under a mound of earth.
Paralakhemundi, Odisha: The District Voluntary Force (DVF) of Odisha police on Sunday recovered a tiffin bomb from a roadside near Telengapada forest under Adaba police limits in Gajapati district.
According to reports, a joint team of Adaba police and the DVF stumbled upon an earthen mound while they were on a routine combing operation in Telengapada forest under Paniganda panchayat at about 7 am.
Suspecting foul play, the security personnel removed the mound and found a tiffin bomb with about 40 kg of explosives placed under it. They immediately informed the district superintendent of police (SP) Sushil Panigrahi.
Acting on the directive of the SP, a bomb disposal squad from the district police headquarters rushed to the spot and defused the bomb.
Police suspect that the Maoists had planted the bomb to target the security personnel. Following the incident, combing operation in the area has been intensified.
It may be mentioned that the security personnel had carried out a weeklong combing operation in Telengapada forest area from July 28 to August 3 to foil the subversive plans of the Maoists during their observation of the Martyr’s Week. Had the rebels blasted the tiffin bomb that time, it could have caused serious damages to them.
