Telangana supports handloom sector more, says K T Rama Rao

The minister also handed over loan waiver cheques to beneficiaries of Cheneta Mitra and Nethannaku Cheyuta schemes.

Hyderabad: Telangana’s budget allocation to support the handloom sector is way more than the allocation made by the Centre, said minister K.T. Rama Rao on the occasion of the National Handloom day.  Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Handlooms and Textiles Exhibition at People’s Plaza in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Mr Rama Rao pledged support to the handloom sector. 

The categories of handlooms have been geo-tagged and the related people have been surveyed. There are about 40,000 people dependent on handlooms, he said. “About 10 days ago, Odisha officials who visited Telangana were surprised and inspired by the initiatives taken by the Telangana government and wanted to implement schemes on similar lines for their handloom weavers,” Mr Rama Rao said. 

The minister also handed over loan waiver cheques to beneficiaries of Cheneta Mitra and Nethannaku Cheyuta schemes. He said, “We are making buy back arrangements through TSCO. He also participated as Chief Guest in a fashion show held Shilparamam.
