Application to spot shops with rations
Ration card-holders will get direct access to operational statistics such as stock positions and distribution pattern.
Hyderabad: The civil supplies department has developed T-Ration, a mobile application which will help increase transparency and check irregularities in the public distribution system. The app will be launched by civil supplies minister Etela Rajender and commissioner C.V. Anand on Friday.
The app can track availability of essential commodities. Ration card holders will get direct access to operational statistics such as stock positions and distribution pattern.
The app has been developed with the assistance of the National Informatics Centre. It will allow officers to discharge their duties remotely. A total of seven government-to-citizen applications have been developed, apart from the 13 applications meant for official use.
The department has launched several IT initiatives over the last year when Mr Anand took. These measures could save the state exchequer over '1,000 crore by checking the illegal diversion of PDS commodities.
“By connecting to the app and by entering his or her ration card number, the cardholder can locate the nearest ration shop, and get direct access to its real-time activities,” Mr Anand said.
People can also use the app to find out the status of their applications for ration cards, the stocks available at godowns, and loading and unloading details.
