Hyderabad: While TRS launched its election campaign on Friday after TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao in a masterstroke announced 105 candidates, the Congress is not off the block and will take some more days to announce candidates. TPCC leaders have to make the rounds between Hyderabad and Delhi to finalize the candidates.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi who is on the Mansarovar Yatra will return to Delhi on September 12. TPCC sources said that he was likely to call TPCC leaders on September 13 or 14 to discuss about party candidates. Meanwhile, TPCC will send survey reports on eligible party candidates to the high command. Based on TPCC survey reports and information collected by the high command on its own party candidates, the list will be finalised. Sources said the high command may not announce all the candidates at one stroke but would opt for an announcement in a phased manner. In the first list, the high command would announce all the sitting MLAs and senior leaders who have no controversies dogging them.

The TPCC is planning to launch its election campaign at Gadwal constituency represented by Congress MLA DK Aruna. This meeting may be held on September 13.

The high command also has to announce the TPCC campaign committee for assembly elections. During the meeting between Rahul Gandhi and TPCC leaders, the election campaign of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will be finalized. Since the election campaign cannot be taken up till candidates are announced, the TPCC, in the meanwhile, will begin the election campaign in the constituencies represented by party MLAs.
