Telangana tops states in linking Aadhaar with food cards

There is no set amount of cards cancelled, and the numbers are always in fluctuation.

While other states are currently cancelling cards that are found to have any irregularities, the department is ensuring that there is no mistakes in cancelling records of legitimate card holders that could lead to starvation.

Hyderabad: An inquiry done by the Food Ministry India, marked Telangana as one of the highest ranked states with Aadhar card linking to food security cards. 

Civil Supplies Bhavan began linking Aadhaar cards with the ration cards, now being the first state to claim a 100 per cent linking of the Aadhar card with ration cards. 

With highly subsidised food grains being sold at lower cost, it is essential to ensure that there is no duplication of the food security cards. 

While other states are currently cancelling cards that are found to have any irregularities, the department is ensuring that there is no mistakes in cancelling records of legitimate card holders that could lead to starvation. 

Commissioner for Civil Supplies Department Sri Akun Sabharwal said, “While the National card for food security, grants five kg of rice, at a price of Rs 3 per kilo, the state is supplying six kgs of rice at Rs 1 per kilo. After the bifurcation, there often are a few duplicate profiles in the cards, which are currently being checked. In addition, the department is making stringent efforts to maintain the authenticity of applications. There is no set amount of cards cancelled, and the numbers are always in fluctuation.”

Ranked fifth among Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana now stands,  at the forefront of ensuring, subsidized grains are being regulated and are placing barriers to irregularities in ration distribution by using a  wide usage of technology, public distribution has came closer to poor people.

There are 2.75 crore beneficiaries in Telangana state and a total of  700 food security cards have been withdrawn due to duplication in both Telugu states.
