University of Hyderabad all set to get more grants to plan for 15 years
An alternative administrative structure to implement the IoE has been drafted by the experts.
Hyderabad: After being ranked as an Institute of Eminence (IoE), the University of Hyderabad (UoH) is all set to receive additional grants as well as financial and administrative autonomy to execute its plans over the next 15 years.
The university has its task cut out: The IoE status demands that it enter the ranks of the Top 500 institutions in a decade. To this end, the UoH has drawn up detailed plans to meet the IoE target which it sees as a major step towards improving the quality of research and teaching.
Explaining their future course of action plan, a varsity official said, “The plan includes putting in place national and international collaborations for research, development of new programmes, including regular, Mas-sive Online Open Courses (MOOC), diploma and certificate and courses within programmes, interdisciplinary studies, increasing enrolment of students, including foreign students, hiring of experts from the industry, improvement in faculty-student ratio, global faculty recruitment.”

An official said, “UoH in the last few years has been putting in place processes and programmes that are now being recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC), ministry of human resource development and IoE. We have been as an institution ahead of our times.”
UoH was awarded the coveted status of institute of eminence by the University Grants Commission and the Centre on Thursday.
The thrust of this scheme is to prepare Indian institutions for global rankings. UoH is presently ranked among 601-650 in the QS Rankings 2020 and is among the top fastest growing 150 institutions in the world that are under the age of 50.
