Protest over garbage yard in Secunderabad Cantonment Board
Hundreds of SCB residents gathered in front of the Gandhi Community Hall.
Hyderabad: Hundreds of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) residents gathered in front of the Gandhi Community Hall adjascent to Trimulgherry football ground, objecting to its demolition by SCB staff while demanding removal of a garbage yard in the area.
Mr. Krishnak Manne, a witness, said, “The demand of the public has been the removal of the temporary garbage yard. There are several houses and a church in close vicinity of the yard that are affected by it. On Thursday night the SCB staff demolished the community hall roof to accommodate a solid waste management plant that is planned to be set up in Trimulgherry. Many families use the hall for small celebrations. Instead of trying to expand it the SCB staff is demolishing it.”
SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta said, “The community hall is being renovated and reconstructed and not demolished. Regarding the garbage transit point, the board recently approved a project for treatment of waste to resolve the issue. There is also a proposal to relocate the community hall within Trimulgherry to provide better location.”
