Adilabad: Adilabad one-town police registered a case under Sections 171 (E) and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Congress leader Kandi Srinivas Reddy on Sunday for distributing pressure cookers to women in Adilabad Assembly constituency and seeking their votes. The police served notices on him and asked him to appear before the police station and give his explanation on the issue.

Srinivas Reddy is chairman of the trust and distributed pressure cookers under the banner of the trust.

According to the police, a native of Adilabad town had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against the distribution of pressure cookers by Srinivas Reddy in the colonies of Adilabad town and in the surrounding villages and seek their votes saying that he would contest in the next elections.

The complaint raised objections to the distribution of pressure cookers and said that it was a violation of the election guidelines though the model code of conduct is yet to be enforced and poll notification is yet to be released.

The EC asked the state election commission to look into the matter. The state election commission asked the local police to take necessary action.
