150 cm crocodile rescued from irrigation canal in East Godavari

Villagers noticed two crocodilesin the Avidi-Machavaram irrigation sub canal and informed authorities in the forest department.

A crocodile caught by forest offcials at an irrigation canal in Avidi village of Kothapeta mandal on Sunday night.

Rajahmundry: An adult crocodile almost 150 cm long and weighing about 25 kgs was caught by the forest personnel from an irrigation canal at Avidi village of Kothapeta mandal in East Godavari late  on Sunday night.

The crocodile was almost 22 cm in width. According to forest authorities, villagers noticed two crocs in the Avidi-Machavaram irrigation sub canal on Saturday.

They again saw one on Sunday night in the canal. They alerted the forest personnel, who rushed to the spot. They threw a net and caught the crocodile.

They later released in Godavari river near Narayana Lanka of Kothapeta mandal on Monday morning. The forest authorities say that the croc used to inhabit in a forest area near water body.

They suspected that the crocodile might have been washed into the the canal during the floods earlier.

It must have been living in the canal for some time. The forest department officials or the villagesrs have no idea where the other croc would have gone.
