Skilled workforce in short-supply in Telangana

The state's chronic unemployment is about 7.7 lakh.

Hyderabad: While the Telangana government is aiming for a big growth in industrial and IT sectors, the state is facing a huge shortage of skilled manpower.

A National Skill Development Council study has revealed that TS will face a shortage of 50.9 lakh skilled manpower by 2022.

Of a total population of 3.5 crore, skilled manpower is just 1.3 per cent against a demand of 29.1 per cent. Only 2.7 per cent of the population is semi skilled against a demand of 11 per cent.

Highlights

Minimally skilled manpower, however, is more than needed – 26.3 per cent against  requirement of 10.4 per cent.

The state’s chronic unemployment is about 7.7 lakh. Among the working population, 2.2 crore are between 15 and 59 years of age.

The working age population is between 15 and 59 years with 1 per cent  diploma holders and 11 per cent graduates and above. Twelve per cent have completed Inter-mediate, 15 per cent secondary education, 5 per cent middle school, 12 per cent primary, 9 per cent pre-primary, and 34 per cent are illiterate.
