Karnataka: MLC Basavaraj Horatti gets threat letter

Hubballi: Senior JD(S) leader and MLC Basavaraj Horatti received an anonymous letter which threatened him with his life, prompting him to alert the police.
Mr Horatti confirmed that he received the letter by post on Monday. His home office staff opened the letter and brought it to his notice. Mr Horatti said that he later informed the police commissioner.
The letter sender has identified himself as a Horatti follower and that he wanted to bring to Mr Horatti’s notice that a five-member team had arrived in Hubballi from Mumbai to kill him and that he should be careful.
DCP (Law & Order) Renuka Sukumar said that a complaint was registered and after investigation, it will be decided whether Mr Horatti should be given security.
The former minister has been in the forefront of Lingayat movement along with ministers M.B. Patil and Vinay Kulkarni, seeking a separate religion tag for the community. Earlier, Mr Kulkarni too had received a similar threat, which is being investigated by the police.
