Ramesh Chennithala says CPM has soft corner for tainted minister Thomas Chandy
He alleged that the government had contempt towards every protest.
Kozhikode: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, said the CPM was forced to protect the tainted minister, Thomas Chandy, as the party itself was suffering under political corruption. “Else, when a hardcore party man like E.P. Jayarajan was dropped, why Mr Chandy has been given a cover?” he asked.
“By protecting him, the CPM, as well as the chief minister, have proved their shamelessness. The encroachments made by the minister are evident from the report of the district collector. Then, what is the delay in removing him from the Cabinet? If the minister is not ready to tender resignation, the chief minister should sack him.”
He alleged that the government had contempt towards every protest. “They should clear the air for the smooth functioning of the ration shops,” the opposition leader said.
“The UDF protest is not against the GAIL project, but against the police action, and human right violation. It would be silly to ask if the UDF objects to a project launched by Oommen Chandy (when he was the chief minister).”
