Nadigar Sangam to move court against special officer
However Karthi, the treasurer of the association, said that allegations were baseless.
Chennai: “We will go to the court against the state government appointment of Special Officer PV Geetha, Assistant Inspector General of Registration, to manage the affairs of Nadigar Sangam,” said Nasser, actor and president of SIAA, at a hurriedly convened press conference on Thursday in the city.
This came in the wake of the Tamil Nadu government appointing PV Geetha as special officer to Nadigar Sangam who will hold office for a period of one year beginning November 6, 2019, or until disputes pertaining to Nadigar Sangam elections pending with the Madras high court are resolved.
Nasser added, “From last elections, we have been adhering to all laws and everything is done in a democratic manner. People who oppose do not have any valid allegations against us. Appointing a special officer to SIAA is like strangling the neck of democracy.”
Based on cases filed by four people against the Sangam, the government has taken this step against 3,222 members, said Poochi Murugan.
However Karthi, the treasurer of the association, said that allegations were baseless. “The four has accused that they did not get pension, the construction of sangam’s building has been stalled and the SIAA is in a state of dysfunction. First of all, the association's trust is giving pension on compassionate grounds and there's no rule that pension has to be given.
“Secondly, unless the election results are declared and new body elected, we cannot raise the building. We are not against the special officer and we will cooperate. We believe in judiciary and justice will prevail,” Nasser concluded. Manobala, Sachu among others were present on the occasion.
