Thiruvananthapuram: Before you purge and toss unwanted goods as garbage, put these to good use by contributing to a ‘swap shop.’
Under Haritha Keralam mission, swap shops will be opened in 93 urban local bodies including corporations and municipalities. The swap shop is a public platform where reusable products that are not of use for one individual family can be conserved and given to another.
According to authorities, electric, electronic gadgets, child-friendly products, clothing and furniture, mattresses and pillows would be collected at these centres.
Drop Facility Centers to collect and store items from public shall be arranged 7 days prior to the campaign date mainly in schools and other public public places by the respective local bodies.
Items will be collected only after ascertaining their usability. There will be no distribution of items from these centres. The items will be segregated and displayed in stalls at the campaign location in an attractive way for the public.
Officials say most of reusable materials at the moment were ending up at landfill dumps in Tamil Nadu. The campaign is aimed providing an opportunity to the citizens to contribue to the community in their own way.
