Hyderabad: 11 couples held for PDA in park
The students alleged tthe police was engaging in moral policing and had been harassing them.
Hyderabad: The special operations team picked up 11 couples, all from the nearby engineering colleges in Medipally, while they were allegedly engaged in public display of affection at the Nandanavanam Park.
Police said that visitors to the park had complained about students coming in and engaging in public display of affection. The cops said that it was not moral policing but taking action against public nuisance.
SOT officials said they had got a tip off that couples were sitting in different corners of the park and were engaged in ‘indecent acts’. “They had bunked classes and were misbehaving in public. We went there and picked them up,” an official said. Police booked a petty case against them under the City Police Act and released them.
Meanwhile, the students alleged that the police was engaging in moral policing and had been harassing them for visiting the park. “Some of us are just friends. The cops were rude and took us to the police station. We do not understand why we girls and boys are not allowed to mingle,” said one of the students.
