Haliyal: It is for the Congress high command to take a decision on the ‘one family one ticket’ policy proposed by KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar, said CM Siddaramaiah during his visit to Haliyal to inaugurate several projects and schemes on Thursday.
When asked about the proposal, Mr Siddaramaiah told DC that the idea has been mooted but no decision has been taken on it. “We have no say on this particular issue, only the Congress high command should take a decision.”
He also spoke about the Kali River Project and said it will be implemented in Haliyal at the earliest which will ease the drinking water crisis in places in and around Haliyal. "This project will help in drawing water from Kali river and will fill 46 lakes and 19 water barrages which will in turn convert 14,800 acres of dry land into irrigation land. The project cost is estimated at Rs 220 crores, we will ensure it is completed at the earliest," he said.
A sub-jail will be constructed at a cost of Rs 170 lakh in Haliyal. Several projects will be implemented in Haliyal and surrounding areas for the benefit of the rural population with Dandeli too set to become a taluk from 2018, the CM said.
The family member of farmers who committed suicide, were given compensation by the state government.
On Mr Rahul Gandhi being elevated to the highest position in the Congress, Mr Siddaramaiah said it was a right move at the right time. “Mr Rahul Gandhi will surely boost the morale of Congress workers. He has been motivating young leaders which is a good sign for the development of the nation,” he added.
