Kurnool: Law enforcement officials face tough time
The public are amused at the way Rs 200 crore cash stash was fizzled out despite lodging of a complaint some 20 days ago.
KURNOOL: Crime in Nandyal Town is multi-dimensional as the criminal matrix is widespread and is operating simultaneously, throwing challenges to the Law Enforcement authorities. Fake seeds, Gutka, fake currency, fake pesticides and pharmaceutical you name it and the fingers point to Nandyal as the centre for these activities.
The Civil Police are busy with regular law and order maintenance while the Vigilance Department has been selective and choosy and would operate only on a tip off, as a Sub Inspector told DC.
The public are amused at the way Rs 200 crore cash stash was fizzled out despite lodging of a complaint some 20 days ago. It gave rise to a suspicion as to why the police could not have acted swiftly. Complainant Shankar Reddy of Pandurangapuram Village lodged a complaint with Nandyal DSP Gopala Krishna that Rs 200 crore in cash was stashed in the house of Rama Chandra Reddy in Pedda Kottala village. He claimed that he was party to keeping the money in the house. The complainant alleged that the house owner was a diamond trader and had amassed wealth which was kept in the house.
When it comes to banned Gutka, the town has a well calibrated distribution network in the contraband. A Vigilance official said that they would raid only based on credible information. When asked why they won’t keep a watch on retail sellers such as pan sellers who are displaying reels of gutka, he said it is not practical.
Last year, a team of Regional Vigilance and Enforcement conducted raids and seized 40 quintals of fake cotton seed bags being stored to sell to the farmers illegally at various private warehouses in Nandyal Town.
Based on information, they raided New Venkateswara seeds, Babburi Agri Industries and seized bulk amount of prohibited cotton seeds which were ready to be sold to farmers illegally, the CI said. The seized HTBT kind seeds were worth ' 60 lakhs approximately. One could hardly hear anything after this.
In another incident, the officials of Regional Vigilance and Enforcement (RVE) Department busted a fake pesticides manufacturing unit at Nandyal Town. Fake pesticides were being manufactured by mixing them with hazardous chemicals since few years. They did not yield any benefit and are useful for agricultural crops.
After getting valid information, the Enforcement officials raided the manufacturing unit and seized fake pesticides and machinery worth more than Rs 50 lakh.
