Voting rights: Action sought against IT firms
It also deprived them of their constitutional right to elect their representatives.
Hyderabad: The Forum of IT (FORIT) professionals has asked the Election Commission to take action against CGI, Infosys and Tech Mahindra for not allowing their employees to cast their votes.
The forum said that the action on part of the IT managements robbed the chance of IT professionals to cast their franchise and be part of the democratic process. It also deprived them of their constitutional right to elect their representatives.
An Infosys spokesperson said, “On behalf of Infosys we would like to state that, Infosys is closed today, Friday, December 7, on account of Telangana Assembly Elections. In this regard Infosys has declared a holiday for all its employees in the Hyderabad STP & SEZ.”
However, according to FORIT, “Though some companies, like Infosys, have declared a holiday officially, they are forcing them to work on the pretext of support projects.”
