Tirupati: Telugu Desam (TD) spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy has accused YSRC government of indulging in a massive Transferable Development Rights (TDR) scam across multiple constituencies, involving Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 crore.

Addressing a press conference in Nellore on Friday, he pointed out that there has been no transparency in the government's handling of TDR-related matters across various constituencies. It is indicative of a systemic problem, which has arisen due to failure of authorities in providing detailed information on the issue.

In particular, the TD spokesperson highlighted the situation in Tirupati, where 18 roads had been sanctioned by the municipal council under a master plan. They have turned a focal point of controversy after intermediaries thwarted attempts to obtain information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

He said, “RTI queries obstructed related to 342 TDR bonds issued in Tirupati, wherein 2.8 lakh square yards have been acquired at a compensation of Rs 35,000 per square yard, amounting to Rs 1,013 crore. The acquired land has been falsely shown as commercial, though being either agricultural or residential. This has led to an embezzlement of Rs 4,052 crore.”

Ramana Reddy further claimed that a state minister's relative, a beneficiary of the scam, received Rs 32.52 crore. He alleged that individuals from highest levels of government down to municipal and corporation employees are involved in this fraud.

Demanding a thorough investigation, the TD spokesperson stated that if Telugu Desam is voted to power, they would institute a probe to make all those involved accountable.
