Chennai: 3 boys meet watery grave on two different beaches

On Sunday evening, the duo went for a ride and later visited the beach in the evening.

Chennai: Three persons including a college student drowned in beaches at Neelankarai and Marina in separate incidents in the city on Sunday. 

In one of the incidents in Neelankarai, two teenagers who went for a swim in the sea drowned after they were engulfed by giant waves. The deceased were identified as Sarweshwaran (19) and his friend, Subash (19). 

Subash is a native of Villupuram and is a second year student at a college in the city. He was staying at Neelankarai. His friend Sarweshwaran works in a lathe unit. 

On Sunday evening, the duo went for a ride and later visited the beach in the evening. 

 Police quoted witnesses as saying that the duo went deep into the sea and got engulfed by the waves. 

A few beachgoers alerted local fishermen who made futile attempts to save them. 

Their bodies washed ashore on Monday morning, police said. Neelankarai police moved the bodies to government hospital for autopsy. 

In another incident in Marina, a 22-year-old from Manipur who went for a swim in the sea drowned. 

The deceased was identified as Lalram. He had come to the beach along with three other friends. While local fishermen managed to rescue three people, they were unable to trace Lalram. 

His body washed ashore on Monday morning. Police secured his body and moved it to the Government Royapettah hospital for autopsy.
