14 oppn parties to join Rahul Gandhi in Assam leg of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Guwahati: Fourteen opposition parties, including TMC, AAP, JD (U), RJD, CPM and regional parties Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal, which have floated a joint platform--the United Opposition Forum in Assam has decided to join Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam.

The yatra is scheduled to travel through 833 km in Assam — the longest distance to be covered in any north-eastern state. It is likely to be covered in eight days in Assam.

in a statement, the forum confirmed that all 15 parties of the United Opposition Forum (UOF), Assam will join the yatra.

A meeting of the opposition parties was held in Guwahati to come to a conclusion on joining the yatra. Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah was present at the meeting.

UOF’s Assam general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the entire opposition will participate in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra only to defeat BJP and AIUDF in Assam in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The representatives of the other opposition parties will also sit together with Rahul Gandhi in a meeting during the yatra, the statement said.

Mr Gogoi said that in the conventions of the yatra, the other opposition parties will also participate.

As per the route map of the Manipur to Mumbai yatra released by Congress, it will be second longest in Assam (833 km), after Uttar Pradesh where it will traverse through a distance of 1074 km. The yatra will commence on January 14 from Manipur and is likely to reach Assam on January 18. Altogether, 17 districts of Assam are about to be covered during the yatra.
