Attack by MIM men on Congress leaders Uttamkumar, Shabbir
Hyderabad: AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi surrendered before the city police on Monday morning in connection with the criminal case booked against him for attacking Telangana Congress leaders at Mirchowk on GHMC polling day.
A local court granted him bail after a few hours. Mr Owaisi appeared before south zone deputy commissioner of police V. Satyanarayana at around 10.45 am at his office at Purani Haveli. The MP was taken to Osmania General Hospital for a medical check-up and later presented before court. The 8th ACMM court granted him bail on a personal surety of Rs 5,000 in the afternoon, officials said.
Earlier, Mirchowk police had registered a case against the Hyderabad MP and three others under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 506 and 149 for attacking Telangana Congress leaders Uttamkumar Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir on polling day.
A day after the incident at Mirchowk police arrested three MIM workers including the social media organiser of the party. They were also given bail.
Mr Owaisi had left for New Delhi the day after the elections. MIM sources said the MP decided to surrender as soon as he reached the city to avoid arrest.
On the afternoon of GHMC polling day a mob lead by Mr Owaisi stopped the convoy of Congress leaders and questioned their presence in old city. Some MIM workers then attacked the leaders and damaged their vehicles.
