Kochi: Once a fan favourite and now a cult hero, Dinkan  is  set to make a comeback. The vernacular weekly Mangalam has announced that  it will relaunch  the  fictional anthropomorphic superhero mouse from the next issue.

The Mangalam publications had stopped publishing the Dinkan comic series  in 2012 in Balamangalam children’s  magazine, but it is  reviving it  considering the popularity of the  character on the social media.

Recently, several youngsters had adopted Dinkan as their god in an attempt to mock religion. They started sharing satiric posts of Dinkan and even posted videos of devotional songs praising Dinkan.

Dinkosim is a Malayalam version of Flying Spaghetti Monster, a social movement in Netherlands that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of intelligent design and creationism in public schools.

Recently,  Dinkosits had protested against actor Dileep for announcing a movie  ‘Professor Dinkan.’  The news went viral and the social media was abuzz with Dinkan- related posts. The sympathisers of 'God Dinkan' made satirical posts against religious fanatics who criticise the movie for flimsy reasons.

“I am happy that Dinkan is coming back to Malayalam. I have already sent two episodes to the publication and they are planning to relaunch it next week,” said artist Baby.

“I am quite happy that the character is still popular among the public,”  he added. Baby is penning and drawing the comic this time. Baby, a  freelance cartoonist based in Cherthala,  is a popular figure among the children. He is now contributing to several Malayalam children magazines as well as  English comics. Balamangalam started publishing Dinkan comics in 1983.
