Toms College of Engineering moves Kerala High Court
The petitioner challenged the directive that affiliation shall not be granted to the college for the academic year 2017-18.
Kochi: Toms College of Engineering for startups, Kottayam on Wednesday approached the Kerala High Court challenging the order of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) directing it to stop regular classes for the second and fourth semester BTech programmes until further orders from the university.
The petitioner challenged the directive that affiliation shall not be granted to the college for the academic year 2017-18 so that there will not be any student intake. The technological university further ordered that the continuance of affiliation already granted for the academic years 2015-16 and 2016-17 will be subject to a decision from the AICTE. The students who have taken admission during the academic years 2015-16 and 2016-17 are permitted to avail institutional transfer in second and fourth semesters and branch change by relaxing the provisions, the order said.
The college sought to quash all the directives. The college claimed that it is having all the requirements mandated under the provisions of University Act. The reasons mentioned in the orders have no justification and are without sufficient proof. According to the college, parents of more than 200 students are interested to continue studying at the college. The college further contended that the orders are not with any good intention to protect the interests of students.
