ALAPPUZHA: A high-level medical team led by Kottayam Medical College gynaecology head Dr C.P. Vijayan began a probe into the death of a 36-year-old woman following delivery at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Barbara, 36, died on Monday, two weeks after delivering a baby girl,  while undergoing treatment in the hospital for post-delivery complications. Her relatives alleged medical negligence.

The team visited the hospital and recorded statements of 35 people, including relatives. "We'll submit a report to the government,” said Dr Vijayan. Dr P. K. Rajakumari, Dr Anju and Dr Unnikrishnan are other members of the team. The Ambalapuzha police had earlier registered a case following a ruckus in the hospital. They had also registered a case after a three-metre-long surgical cloth came out from the vagina of a woman who delivered a few days ago.
