Mission Bhagirata to boost Netizens' in Telangana
Fibre net cables laid along with water pipes.
ADILABAD: As part of Mission Bhagirata, the state government’s flagship programme, not only will safe drinking water be supplied to homes, so will internet services. Cables are being laid along with water pipelines in the villages and towns of old Adilabad district.
Mission Bhagirata is likely to create a digital boom in the days to come with the government making provisions for internet and online services. A government employee who is supervising the pipe-laying works under Mission Bhagirata confirms that pipes bearing internet cables are also being laid.
It is for the first time that a government is laying internet cables to provide internet services along with water to homes. Cables are being laid underground, covering large distances. This will boost the number of netizens in rural and urban areas. It remains unclear whether the state government will charge a fee for its internet services or not.
Internet services have become essential as the educated youth increasingly rely on the internet to get things done. The Central government is promoting the concept of Digital India and encouraging the use of online transactions. Internet services have reached villages through cellular service providers, and high competition has caused rates to come down in the recent past.
The Telangana government is also encouraging the online services to bring about transparency in its functioning, curb irregularities in the implementation of various development works and welfare schemes, and reduce the time that it takes to get things done.
The state and Central governments have created free WiFi zones in cities and towns for the benefit of citizens. Once the internet cables laid by the government are operational, internet services will be available in every nook and corner of the state.
