Kakinada: Tablets distributed to cure filariasis
DEC tablets destroy the micro filariasis, Albenda-zole prevents newly hatched larvea from growing.
KAKINADA: Nearly 1.39 crore diethylcarbanmazine (DEC) and 52 lakh Albendazole tablets are being distributed in East Godavari to people to eradicate filariasis from the society.
District Collector Karthikeya Misra distributed the tablets at the CM Primary Health Centre in Recherlapet in Kakinada on Friday. He said that mass drug administration has been taken up in 10 districts including East Godavari in 2014. As per transmission assessment survey report, the mass drug administration programme is being taken up again.
The collector said that the DEC tablets ruin the micro filariasis while Albendazole is an anthelmintic or anti-worm medication that prevents newly hatched insect larvae (worms) from growing or multiplying in the body.
He said that seven rapid response teams have been constituted.
There are around 2,210 supervisors and 22,120 drug administrators engaged in the distribution of the tablets to people in the area.
Kakinada Mayor S. Pavani said that all people should be administerrd the tablets without fail to protect themselves from the filarial diseases and to stop its growth.
Medical and health personnel said that the tablets should not be used by pregnant women as they are prohibited from medical point of view.
